It had been three years of watching the actions of Jesus–his teaching, his healing, his feeding, his redeeming love. But the disciples still can’t seem to understand. “Show us God,” they say. So Jesus tries to help them understand that whenever they have witnessed his works, they have seen God. Then he offers a shocking statement of trust in those who will carry on after he is gone: they will do works like these and even greater. Anyone who asks for assistance to carry out love-in-action in the name of Jesus, will be his Body, his Love, multiplied many times over throughout the world. Jesus trusts us to do this work.
